Disadvantages of installing pre-finished floors over brut floors

Pre-finished floors can be very difficult to refinish and repair, if it gets dented or scratched, it is very complicated to repair.

Refinishing a pre-finished floor is also challenging and more costly because you must remove several layers of urethane finish to get to the wood. You also need to sand a greater percentage of actual wood to remove the factory V-Groove which takes more time and adds to the cost.

The seams between the floorboards of pre-finished floors are far more noticeable and susceptible to being damaged. Accumulation of dirt and residue become imbedded in the V-Groove seams over time, it especially noticeable when you have a light floor.

Another disadvantage of pre-finished flooring is that by the time hardwood floor needs repairing the color and finish of that floor could be discontinued.

Recommended species of wood

The recommended species of wood for Québec are Canadian woods such as maple, birch, ash or oak. Exotic wood is harder/denser but with the weather we experience here, the floor will tend to shrink or expand more often due to the fluctuatinglevels of humidity.
